Wildflower Golf Course
“FORE” – Yes, Wildflower Golf Course is something to shout about – we are celebrating our 18th anniversary this season!
This 7,000 yard championship layout has quietly become recognized as a great golf destination in Northwest Minnesota. The golf course features a prairie links layout, with wide open vistas and oak lined fairways. Tee boxes are designed for skill levels of all golfers, family members, corporate events and competitive tournaments.
The golf course is located 15 miles south of Detroit Lakes, and just three plus hours northwest of the Twin Cities. Designed by Joel Goldstrand, the layout features large, undulating, bent grass greens that are receptive to quality shots, yet are a test to most players for those elusive birdie putts. When players come off the course, you'll hear some say, “Those pin placements were set for those who want to challenge the course—this was a great day and a fun golf course”.
Wildflower is located at and owned by Fair Hills Resort, on Pelican Lake. The course has several vistas where the lake can be seen, yet does not have a water hole anywhere on the course. The long par 4, fifth hole has an elevation drop of 90 feet, a sight that still awes players who daily frequent the golf course. Located at the Fair Hills Resort allows resort guests to play at a reduced rate. Wildflower hosts several ways for players to access the facility. It is open for daily fees for public play, has several tournaments throughout the season, and provides local players with four levels of memberships. Wildflower and Fair Hills Resort specialize in hosting corporate events and group outings. Check their website for details; or call the Golf Shop 218-439-3357.
Accolades for Wildflower prove that it is a quality venue sought after by regionally knowledgeable sources. It has recently hosted the 103rd MGA Players qualifier, the 105th MGA Seniors qualifier, both the 2005 and 2007 U.S. Amateur Qualifier, 11 consecutive PGA Junior’s qualifiers, and several Men’s and Ladies Collegiate events these last several years.
The full amenity practice range is second to none in the area. One can utilize the practice chipping green surrounding by large oaks, try their skills on the practice green located adjacent to the clubhouse, but mostly, can let the full swing by those big hitters try to hit the back side of the 350 yard range. The practice range has space enough to accommodate over 25 players at one time.
